1995
Sep.  Japan officially applies to FIFA for the hosting of the 2002 FIFA World Cup with the concept of a "Virtual Stadium" as the main sales point.
 
1996
Jan.  "Virtual Stadium Research Group" founded.
 
May  It is decided that Japan and Korea will co-host the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
 
1997
Jan.  The "Committee for Ultra Wide Screen Image Business using High-vision" starts under the auspices of the High-tech Visual Promotion Center.
 
Jul.  MEGA VISION is adopted as the official name.
 
Nov.  Preview shown at JVC's Yamato Plant on a 400 inch screen (7m tall x 9m wide) which was the largest in Japan at the time.
 
1998
Oct.  Shooting carried out with IMAX camera at Komaba Stadium in Urawa City, Saitama Prefecture.
 
Nov.  Preview at Japan Cinesell Corporation preview room of the IMAX shoot (above) recorded onto 35 millimeter film (first time).
 
1999
Nov.  Preview for JFA. Sydney Olympic Asia group qualifier between Japan and Kazakhstan shot with MEGA VISION at Japan's National Stadium.
 
Dec.  First public preview of MEGA VISION held at Garden Place in Ebisu. This preview was timed to coincide with the Preliminary Draw for FIFA World Cup 2002 and attended by numerous Japan based people connected to FIFA and international press. This preview was called the "No Excuses preview".
 
2000
Apr.  A Technical Evaluation Committee is established within the Japan Organising Committee for the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan (JAWOC) and investigation of the use of MEGA VISION at World Cup 2002 commences.
 
Jun.  It is officially decided that MEGA VISION will be used for the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications' Japan-Korea High Data Rate Satellite Communication Project.
 
Dec.  The first MEGA VISION real time optical beam transmission experiment is completed between Japan's National Stadium and Aoyama Tepia, for the match between Japan and Korea.
 
2001
Jul.  Satellite transmission is used for the first time between Sapporo and Aoyama Tepia for a live broadcast of the Kirin Cup match held between Japan and Paraguay at Sapporo Dome.
 

2002
Jun.  Satellite transmission is used for simultaneous international live broadcasts at several locations in Japan and Korea for 11 of the 64 matches held during the World Cup.
 
2003
Dec.  The world's first MEGA VISION theater - the "Virtual Stadium" opens in the Japan Football Museum (permanent installation).
 
2004
Oct.  The MEGA VISION Visual System is awarded METI's "Informatization Month Promotion Council Chairman's Award 2004"
 
Oct.  MEGA VISION is awarded with the "Tokyo Metropolitan Venture Technology Prize 2004, Honorable Mention Award"
 
2005
Mar.

 The "Laser Dream Theater", which uses MEGA VISION to display on a screen 50m tall x 10m wide, opens in the Global House at the World Exposition 2005, Aichi, Japan (permanent installation for the duration of the Exposition).

 
2006
Oct.

 "Guinness World Record": The MEGA VISION image is displayed as full screen content for "New Turf Vision", a permanently installed all weather ultra-wide (W66.4m x H11.2m) outdoor display at the JRA's Tokyo Racecourse, which opened on October 7th (ongoing display).
